    what metal

    is best to rebuild floor pans with.. thickness, workable, etc..

    But in answer to your question if you are gonna just build a flat surface with some kind of under support or bracing I usuallu use 16 guage it simple and it welds easy, but if I have to put rolled supports in the metal like using a bead roller to keep it from oil canning your best bet is prolly 18 guage and sometimes 20 guage, but I don't use it to often.

    As usual, John hit it right on the money...however, I like 18 guage the most! Its thick enough to get some really strong thick welds on it,, and thin enough to work rolls, bend in hard angles, and use the bead roller pretty easy also- if it is just flat surface with underframing then thicker is better- 16 guage and I even go down to 14 guage some times
