    rear axle

Have any of you considered a Isuzu Rodeo rear axle?I was in the bone yard today looking at one,it has a factory locker, four link and panhard bar, coil springs.I checked on price and its very affordable.

It should be strong enough for street use. I wonder how wide it is?

That would put the wheel mount face at about 58 inches or a little wider. about the same as a mid 70s lincoln versaille. 80 monarch both nine inchers. Or an early 8 inch mustang. For your willys project it would seem to be a good choice, especially with all the mounting parts with it.

For the front I`m using a 28 Ford axle which is pretty narrow to start with.I don`t really know how to figure the finished wheel mounting surface.

I believe you model A axle is 46 inches king pin to king pin centered, and should be about 34 3/8 inches perch centers. The way I figure it you should be about 4 inches out on each side from the king pin center, and should be about 54 to 55 inches wheel mount to wheel mount on your front axle. perfect for the front of a rod. Fendered or not. if you are using split bones on the front though make sure you don't mount them to far out on the frame or you tires might rub on them. I know of this first hand and had to re do mine on the 27 chevy.

I have been reading about these axles, they are D44,more than likely a 430 ratio, limited slip, disc brake. The only real downside is adapting the metric brake lines to fit.

The metric difference is not a problem. I usually call speedway and ask to talk to a tech, and they steer me in the right direction on the correct adaptors for the joining of metric and standard lines. those guys have all the adaptors in stock, and are reasonable cost wise. That 430 ratio should be fun, and get ya in trouble at the stop lights.

I figure with the 430 gears and LS I`ll need a good supply of used tires for roasting!

Is there a significant difference between a limited slip, and a possi?I don`t think I can live with peg leg burnouts, and I plan on roasting the first set of tires right off the rims.

Sure grip, limited slip, or posi. Is pretty much the same design. They were just named different by different manufacturers
